The Smiths foi uma banda inglesa formada em Manchester em 1982 por Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke e Mike Joyce. Em atividade até 1987, lançou quatro álbuns de estúdio e tornou-se uma referência do rock independente britânico dos anos 1980.

The Smiths foi formada em Manchester em 1982 por Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke e Mike Joyce. A banda combinou a voz e as letras de Morrissey com as composições de Marr e uma seção rítmica marcada por Rourke e Joyce.\n\nO grupo assinou com a Rough Trade e lançou seu primeiro álbum, The Smiths, em 1984. Seguiram-se Meat Is Murder, The Queen Is Dead e Strangeways, Here We Come. A banda encerrou suas atividades em 1987, deixando uma discografia concentrada em quatro álbuns de estúdio, singles, compilações e um registro ao vivo.
